The Congregation has its origin in 1845 at Saint-Marc in the region of Alsace, France. Fr.Pierre Paul Blanck is the founder of the Congregation of Sisters of St.Joseph of Saint-.Marc. He felt the need of a religious congregation for persons who have more preference for prayer and solitude. The principal aim of our Congregation is “Perpetual Adoration of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament”
Our Congregation is spread out in different countries such as France, Germany, America, Rome, Ukraine, Switzerland , Philippines and India. We have four Provinces and two Delegations. French, German, Indore and Sanjo are our provinces in India and abroad. The Founder placed our congregation under the patronage of St. Joseph.
Charism of our Congregation:-The Eucharistic Adoration of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, taking care of the sick, poor and education of the children are the central core of the spirituality and Charism.
Fr. Pierre Paul Blanck -The Founder of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Saint-Marc - A Holy Priest blazed with the fire of the love of God. Pierre Paul Blanck was born as the fourth child of Mr. Francis Joseph and Mrs. Agnes Baffray on October 11, 1809. At the dawn of the day, on Wednesday 20th September 1829, Pierre Paul accompanied by his father Dr. François Joseph entered the Trappist Monastery at Oelenberg in Haut- Rhin. Pierre Paul along with study he also nurtured in his heart the seed of divine call to follow Jesus and at end of his college studies he discerned well the divine call to be a priest and he decided to join in a Trappist Monastery. Rome.He experienced a special grace from God and was filled with the joy of being a priest to serve God and others. He was privileged to celebrate his first Eucharistic celebration on April 5, on the Passion Sunday. By the inspiration of Holy Spirit he had envisioned in his heart to start a Religious Community for the group of young girls who were thirsting for Prayer and Solitude under the protection of ST. JOSEPH. The community was composed of eighteen excellent Sisters. They are humble, docile, pious, hardworking and very devoted to God. During the period of 1843 to 1844 Fr. Pierre Paul wrote two important letters to Mgr. Raess, Bishop of Strasbourg for the canonical permission to begin the Congregation of SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH OF SAINT-MARC. By the Divine Providence, on 3rd March 1845, the ancient priory of Saint-Marc put up for sale. With immense joy and gratitude, Fr. Pierre Paul bought it and here formed the first community of SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH OF SAINT- MARC. Fr. Pierre Paul was a Fervent and Zealous disciple of Lord Jesus Christ. His thirst for the Word of God and deeper devotion in Eucharistic Celebration had enriched him to deepen his life in faith, charity and in the forgiveness love of God in Jesus Christ.
As we look to St. Joseph, our patron saint, we are inspired by his exemplary life of faith, humility, and unwavering trust in God. Though the Bible records few of his words, his actions speak volumes about his character. Chosen by God for the noble task of caring for and protecting Jesus, St. Joseph embodied the qualities of a true disciple.Through his life, St. Joseph teaches us that true greatness lies not in seeking power or recognition, but in quiet service, humility, and unwavering trust in God's providence. As the guardian of Jesus and Mary, he worked tirelessly to provide for their needs, ensuring their home was filled with love, security, and faith. One of the most remarkable examples of St. Joseph's role as protector was when he took Mary and Jesus to Egypt, fleeing the wrath of King Herod. This courageous act demonstrates his unwavering trust in God and his willingness to obey His will without hesitation. As St. Joseph Sisters, we are called to emulate his example, becoming custodians of our own communities. We are reminded that true discipleship is not about seeking grandeur or public acclaim, but about serving others with humility, trusting in God's providence, and obeying His will with courage and fidelity.
